In April, Acura debuted a prototype of its new 2010 ZDX at the New York International Auto Show, and while it won’t be available for purchase until this fall, it’s clear to see that this stunning car offers an unprecedented combination of utility and luxury.
The ZDX features clean lines that flow from the headlights along the length of the car. The styling is provocative and contemporary – the roof line is sharply raked, while the fenders flare boldly. The handles to the rear doors are concealed cleverly in the C pillar, in keeping with coupe styling. Integrated under-floor storage provides a functional cargo space which lies beneath the all-glass tailgate. The car rides on twenty-inch Michelin tires on 9-spoke machined wheels and features chrome dual exhausts, sure to please gear heads everywhere.
In addition, passengers in the ZDX will certainly feel pampered. The cabin is wrapped in leather, from the hand stitched leather instrument panel and dash, to the premium leather seats and the leather wrapped steering wheel. The seats are comfortable and supportive, while the steering wheel has paddle shifters inspired by race cars for the best in driver control. A panoramic glass roof encloses the cabin and runs for the entire length of the vehicle, giving the occupants a complete view of the world outside.
In this car, the distinctions between sedan, coupe and sport utility vehicle are blurred. While the car is officially designated a sports coupe, it’s built on the MDX SUV power train and also features its all wheel drive. Boasting 20 inch tires, you could call this car a midsize crossover utility vehicle. But whatever you want to call the car, you’ll find it luxurious and inviting. In fact, some industry experts say that this car may well be the best looking car that Acura has ever produced. However, the car will seat five, so more than just being a sporty car; it’s also a practical car.
The 2010 ZDX will have a V6 engine, with a six speed automatic transmission featuring Sequential SportShift. Add in Acura’s Super Handling All Wheel Drive and a robust powertrain, and you have a car that offers the best and latest in performance and technology. The Super Handling All Wheel Drive system is featured in other Acura sedans and allows for sharp cornering with very little lean.
This 2010 ZDX is also designed to be safe. To help drivers change lanes, the car will have a blind spot information system, and parking and backing up will be easier with the installation of a rear camera with a top down view and a wide angle view. You can also choose from Bluetooth connectivity, an enhanced premium audio system, real time weather and traffic and the Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition.
However, much about this car remains shrouded in mystery. For example, no price has yet been announced for this car, although industry estimates put it between $42,000 and $50,000. That’s no small amount of money, but it’s definitely worth the style and performance you’ll receive with the ZDX.
