2009 Audi RS 5

When it comes to the 2009 Audi RS 5, car enthusiasts have one big question – when can we get our hands on it?

So far, all Audi has confirmed is that the engine for the RS 5 sports coupe will be a naturally aspirated 4.2 liter V8 with 450 horsepower, boasting 332 pound-feet of torque. This engine is being designed especially to compete with the BMW M3. With an engine of this type, some experts are predicting a DSG 7 speed gearbox, while others think the RS 5 will get the newly upgraded Audi S-tronic dual clutch gearbox. With these specs, it’s estimated that the coupe will be able to make the jump 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds.

On the body, you can expect to find 20 inch wheels and wider racks in the front and rear. Audi will also likely mount the engine as far back as it can for even weight distribution. Enthusiasts and experts are also predicting that the Audio Quattro drive train will be found underneath the dashing new exterior, along with the Audi rear active sport differential.

Originally, the RS 4 was released in 2005 to compete with the BMW M3 couple, and compete it did, upsetting most of its rivals with its V8 engine and high performance standards. However, the RS 4 won’t be replaced for some time. The BMW M3 coupe and sedan, along with the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG may be enjoying their time in the spotlight, but chances are the Audi RS 5 will have what it takes to upset these rivals once again to become a class leader.

Some photos of the RS 5 in testing show an adjustable rear spoiler on the trunk, and Audi has confirmed that both a coupe and convertible RS 5 will be offered when the car eventually hits the market, which is expected to occur late in 2009. Currently, industry experts predict that the RS 5 will debut with an estimated price of around $90,000 USD.

But if the price seems high, don’t worry – Audi is sure to justify this high entry cost with exceptional features and styling. One of the only pictures to be released of the RS 5 shows the convertible model sporting a honeycomb grille – an Audi RS signature trait – as well as silver side mirrors and LED lights. The car also appears to be sporting R8-style air ducts and no fog lamps, leading to a sleek, streamlined look. Some photos have appeared with the RS 5 featuring a spoiler, although there’s been no official confirmation as to whether or not this feature will be found on the debut model.

However, whatever the final specs of the RS 5 are, you can be sure that the car will demonstrate Audi quality in every aspect. A member of the Volkswagen Group, Audi is a German company headquartered in Bavaria that’s been a member of the Volkswagen Group since 1964. The company’s corporate tagline is “Vorsprung durch Technik,” which is translated as “Advantage through Technology” – a sentiment that’s sure to be played out in the RS 5.
